Description

Thriftwood Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the first half of the 18th century, with 19th-century alterations and modifications made in the mid-20th century. The building features squared, coursed stone with a stone-slate roof and has a five-window front, is one room deep, and has two storeys, with a slightly lower extension on the right side.

The entrance front includes a 3-light casement window with a cambered stone head, a 2-light 20th-century mullioned window, and a boarded door accessed by two stone steps beneath a stone lintel. There is a 4-light mullioned window with a king mullion and a 2-light mullioned window, both with leaded lights and early iron opening lights, the second window containing old glass. A 2-light 20th-century mullioned window has replaced a former doorway. Above, there is a 2-light casement window on the right and four 2-light mullioned windows with iron opening lights and leaded lights.

Inside, to the left of the entrance, there is a wide stone fireplace with a timber lintel, a small cupboard recess at the rear, and a stone seat on the left. The ceiling beam has a wide chamfer, and there is a timber-framed cross-wall in the end room, also with a wide chamfer to the beam and a simpler stop. A pane of glass in the 4-light window is inscribed with "M. Drury, August 2 1886." The farmhouse was converted at some point into two cottages and was recombined in the mid-20th century. It forms a group with the nearby barn.
