Description

Old School House is a former school and school house, now a house, dated 1840 as indicated on the gable above the door to the former schoolroom. The building is constructed of coursed, squared, and dressed limestone, with a concrete tile roof and ashlar stacks, one of which has been restored with incised render. It has an 'L' shape, with minor later extensions to the rear, and a rectangular schoolroom to the left of the house.

The house is one-and-a-half storeys high. The gable of the house projects to the right, featuring a canted four-light stone mullioned bay window on the ground floor, a two-light stone mullioned window above with a relieving arch, and a three-light stone mullioned casement with a stopped hood to the far right. A two-light stone mullioned dormer with a tall gable sits upper right. All windows have ogee-curved heads and carved spandrels. A plank door is set within a flat-chamfered Tudor-arched surround, formerly within a gabled porch that has since been removed.

The schoolroom has a symmetrical four-window front, featuring two-light stone mullioned casements with stopped hoods. A central double door is within a Tudor-arched surround with carved spandrels and a stopped hood. A rectangular datestone above the door bears the inscription "BADGEWORTH SCHOOL / Erected A.D. 1840".
