Description

Aley's Cottage is a small house dating from the 17th century or early 18th century. It features brick-nogged timber framing, a stone plinth, and a thatched roof. The building is one or two bays wide, one room deep, and has one and a half storeys. The gable faces the road, with the left side showing timber framing that consists of two panels high and a thin rail at floor level in the upper panel. There are angle-braced corner posts supporting the wall plate, and a single-pane window cuts through one rail. Two beam ends project from the studs. A four-light casement window is located in a swept dormer with a half-hip roof. The gable facing the road is timber-framed, and there is a large brick external chimney with a tiled offset. On the left side, there is a lean-to brick extension that may have been used for a cupboard or oven. There is also a lean-to extension at the opposite end of the house, but it is not of special interest. The interior has not been inspected.
