Description
The monument to Elizabeth Tovey is located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary, approximately 2.5 metres south of the porch. This chest tomb, made of limestone, commemorates Elizabeth Tovey, the wife of Ralph Tovey, who died in 1662. It features inscription panels on both sides with raised margins and scrollwork in the lower left and lower right corners. The tomb has oval panels that are flanked by bulging foliate scrollwork at either end, and it is capped with a moulded margin. The upper surface of the capping includes an inscription for (?) Chay, the son of Ralph and Elizabeth Tovey, who died in 1682.
