Description

Ivy House, formerly marked as Ivy Farmhouse on the 6-inch Ordnance Survey map, is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 16th century, with alterations from the early 18th century, 19th century, and 20th century. The main structure is built of brick, which conceals remnants of earlier close-studded timber-framing. There is a narrow 19th-century extension on the left gable end and a 19th-century wash house at the right gable end. The roof features red tiles, concrete pantiles, and slate, with brick stacks. The main body has a rectangular plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and includes garret lights.

The facade has three windows; the first floor features two-light casements with glazing bars, while the ground floor has a three-light casement with glazing bars on the left and a 16-pane sash on the right. The central entrance is a 20th-century part-glazed door set in a deep reveal. The left side of the 19th-century extension has a two-light casement with glazing bars. All ground floor openings have gauged brick heads, and the gable end of the 19th-century extension has twelve-pane sashes.

Inside the main body, the layout consists of three rooms with parallel, deep-chamfered spine beams featuring run-out stops in the rooms at either end, and a tie beam in the central room. There are two open fireplaces with bressumers, one of which is blocked.
