Description

This is a house dating from the 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the early 19th century and minor changes in the mid-20th century. The house has timber framing with rendered infill, painted brickwork in a Flemish bond pattern, and a tiled roof. It is composed of a two-bay, two-storey section and a single bay, one-and-a-half-storey section, with each section containing a single room. The house’s gable faces the road. The right return has timber framing rising to the eaves, three panels high, with two two-light windows. A gabled dormer with a two-light casement is positioned above. To the left, the timber framing continues through a further bay. A single-storey rendered porch with a gable projects on the right and has a four-light casement with Y tracery, designed to imitate older features. Behind this window is a section of wall. Above the porch, the timber framing extends to form a dormer featuring a four-light, ovolo-moulded casement with leaded lights, though the verge rafters begin above this window. The left and right walls were raised in brick and with matching timber framing in the 19th century, with a single-light window on the left. A brick bay on the left has a three-light casement with Y tracery and an iron opening light, set within a flat, rubbed brick arch. Above this is a similar window and dentil eaves. Gable chimneys are located at each end of the two-storey section. Fretwork bargeboards adorn the gable facing the road. The building forms a group with Brick House Farmhouse.
