Description
Brick House Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 18th century with a 19th-century extension. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a tiled roof. The building has a five-window front, is two rooms deep, and has two storeys with an unwindowed loft, along with a two-storey, single bay on the right side.
The front elevation includes a plinth and a window to the cellar on the left with a cambered brick head. In the centre, there is a four-panel door accessed by two stone steps, with flush panels and a rectangular light above, all sheltered by an open, single-storey porch supported by wrought-iron elements on late 20th-century brick bases and topped with a tent-shaped metal roof. On either side of the door are two 2-light mullion and transom windows, also with cambered brick heads. A plain string course runs along the front, with five similar windows on the first floor. The eaves feature a plain fascia with moulding above, and a lead eaves gutter is positioned behind. The gables have parapets with a slight step partway up and a flat top over what is presumed to be a narrow central valley. External chimneys are located at the centre of each end, with a diamond pattern in raised headers on top of the left chimney.
To the right, there is an open lean-to over a 2-light casement window and a four-panel door, with a 2-light casement window above the lean-to roof. Inside, the house has a dog-leg stair with square newels, a moulded rail and string, and turned balusters. The front left room features a six-panel door with fielded panels and an eared surround on the room side, along with St Andrew's crosses on each panel leading to the hall. The interior also includes fielded panelling, a dado rail, and small dentils below a moulded cornice. There are panelled shutters and a window seat, as well as a semi-circular corner cupboard with panelled doors below, shaped shelves, a shell head, and a dummy keystone above. A cast-iron fireplace surround from the 19th century is present, along with a small cupboard inset in the wall of the room to the right, which has a semi-circular head slightly indented to a single panel door. The farmhouse forms a group with Tudor Cottage opposite.
