Description
The John Ireland monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard of St. Mary, approximately 4 metres south of the Thomas Pensam monument. It commemorates John Ireland, who died in 1785, his wife Mary, who died in 1789, and other members of the Ireland family. The tomb is made of limestone and has a square plan. It features large decorated brackets with floral designs that act as diagonal buttresses at each corner. There are inscriptions on all four sides, framed by fluted margins. Below the projecting capping, there is a fluted band, and the monument is topped with a pyramidal ogee curved top that has a ball finial.
