Description
Shewell Hill Barn is a barn dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of thin, coursed stone with larger squared dressings and features a corrugated iron roof. The barn has six bays, with a porch on one side and one lofted bay. When viewed from the north, it has a plinth and an off-centre wide doorway to the right, topped with a wooden lintel at eaves level. There are two tall slit air vents to the right of the doorway and three to the left, with the farthest left vent later blocked. The barn has parapet gables and cross-gablet apices. There is a door to the loft in the left return and a square opening in the apex of the gable above. Internally, the far bay on the left is walled off, likely used as a stable, although the interior end bay has not been inspected. There is a cupboard recess in the main wall to the right of the porch, and the gable of the porch is weatherboarded. Inside, there are two trusses on either side of the threshing floor, featuring a tie-beam, collar, and angled struts.
