Description

Gazeley View is a pair of semi-detached cottages located in Southwold, dating from the early 19th century, with a 20th-century extension. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a concrete tile roof and featuring limestone gable end coping, as well as ashlar and brick stacks. The building has a rectangular plan and includes a large outshut on the right with an external stack that projects forward. There is a smaller outshut attached to the left gable end, which has a 20th-century porch that also projects forward from the facade of Southwold.

The main part of the building is two storeys high with an attic, illuminated by three 20th-century two-light dormers and has five windows. The right cottage, No 2, and Gazeley View feature 12-pane sash windows, while Southwold has 20th-century two-light casements. The entrance to No 2 has a six-panel door, with the upper panels replaced by glazing, and is sheltered by a canopy with a moulded edge supported by moulded brackets. There is a 20th-century door leading to the outshut on the far right, and double doors with a pitching door above on the far left outshut. The gable ends have flat coping and both gable end and axial stacks. This building served as the former headquarters of George Wright's Stone Pipe Company from 1808 to 1815. The interiors have not been inspected.
