Description
Oak View is a small cottage dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of painted red brick with a limestone rubble stack that has been repaired in brick. The cottage features a thatched roof with decorative ridge thatching and has a rectangular plan. There are 20th-century extensions to the left gable end and to the rear that are not of special interest. The building is 1½ storeys high and has two 2-light segmental-headed 20th-century metal casements with horizontal glazing bars on the ground floor, one of which has shutters. The central window is set within the blocking of a former doorway, which is now located to the left of the window. There is a small eyebrow dormer with a 2-light casement and leaded panes, and a projecting stack at the right gable end. The left gable end has a half-hipped roof. The interior has not been inspected. Thatched roofing was once common on minor buildings in the area, but it is now a rare survival.
