Description
The Lodge to The Greenway Hotel is a building from the early to mid-19th century, with a later 19th-century extension. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring quoins set in relief, and has a concrete tile roof with both ashlar and brick stacks. The building has an 'L'-shaped main body with the extension located at the left gable end and is a single storey.
The front facing the road has a gable that projects forward to the right, which includes a four-light canted bay with pointed-headed lights, horizontal glazing bars, and miniature battlements on the parapet. There is a blind quatrefoil design on the gable. Access is provided by three 20th-century concrete steps leading up to a part-glazed 20th-century door with glazing bars, positioned within the architrave of a former window to the left of the projecting gable.
On the right-hand side, which faces the drive to the hotel, there is a projecting open-sided porch supported by octagonal piers and pilasters. The porch features four-centred arches with carved spandrels on three sides and a deep gabled parapet, which displays a coat of arms featuring three swans' heads, a man looking up, and a motto at the bottom. There is a two-light 19th-century casement window with horizontal glazing bars within the blocking of a former doorway, as well as blocked single-light windows with stopped hoods on either side. The gable to the right of the porch has a two-light casement window with pointed-headed lights, one of which retains the remains of leaded Gothick glazing at the top. Current access is through a 20th-century door at the rear. The gable ends are topped with saddleback coping and finials.
