Description
The Herbert and Morgan monuments are chest tombs located in the churchyard about 16 meters south-west of the tower of the Church of St Bartholomew. They date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and are made of stone.
The tomb of John Morgan, who died in 1793, features a flat lid with a moulded edge and indented corners. The sides have raised rectangular panels with scalloped upper corners and paterae. The ends are designed with wide pilasters that have fluted capitals, and there is a raised rectangular panel on the stem, all resting on a moulded base. The lettering on this tomb is well-executed, with some in italic.
Approximately 1.5 meters to the south-east is the tomb of Anne Herbert, who died in 1813. This tomb has a coped lid with a step and square edge. The sides include sunk panels with a double step edge and fluted Doric columns at the corners, with raised rectangular panels on the ends. It features a moulded top to the base and a plain step. The lettering is also of good quality, with a later inscription added.
