Description

Gretton House is an early 19th century or late 18th century farmhouse. It is constructed of fine cut and coursed limestone with a Welsh slate roof and coped verges. The house comprises a main range and a later wing projecting to the right towards the road. The front facade, which faces away from the road, is two storeys high and features a three-window arrangement of 16-pane sashes. The ground floor window on the left has been replaced with French doors. The east gable wall contains a fine 6-panel fielded and moulded door, approached by four stone steps with moulded nosings. Above the door is a decorative ironwork hood in a chinoiserie style. The part of the house facing the road is two storeys high with a basement. This facade has three 10-pane sashes and a small, single-light opening with vertical saddle bars, and another two-light window of a similar design. An off-centre entrance is reached by seven steps and features a six-panel door with four glazed panels. A further door, leading to the basement, is positioned to the left, set beneath a segmental head. The interior was not inspected.
