Description

No. 121 High Street is a house that also functions as a restaurant, dating from around 1840 but connected to a 17th-century property at the rear on Trinity Street. The building is stuccoed, with some timber-framing visible at the back, and has a tiled roof. The front, which has been rebuilt, features a framed, gabled unit with a steeply pitched roof. It stands three storeys tall and has two windows. The second floor has large 16-pane sash windows, while the first floor has 20-pane sash windows, all set in moulded architraves with plain cills. The ground floor, rebuilt in the 20th century, is finished in channelled rendering and has a wide central pair of small-pane glazed doors flanked by smaller pairs on each side, all beneath a continuous fascia.

The upper storeys are adorned with panelled pilasters at the centre and ends, supporting an entablature that includes a moulded cornice, a panelled blocking-course, and parapet coping. At the back, there is a high framed gable, mostly hidden by the adjacent Tudor Cottage. This lower framed building, which partly houses No. 121, features a large casement window on the first floor and a plank door set in pilasters with one console bracket, accompanied by an 18th-century moulded architrave with an entablature located just behind the main building. A cropped brick stack is positioned to the right. The detailing of this re-fronting is similar to that of the neighbouring buildings at 120 and 122 High Street, suggesting that the work was completed as a single rebuilding project. The interior has not been inspected.
