Description
There are two unidentified chest tombs located in the churchyard of the Church of the Holy Trinity, approximately 4 to 8 metres south-east of the chancel.
The first chest tomb, which is nearest to the path, is made of limestone and dates from the 17th century. It features an illegible inscription on the north side and an eroded, partially obscured inscription on the south side dedicated to George G------ and Richard ----inett. The north side has a raised rectangular inscription panel flanked by scrollwork, and the double inscription panels are divided by a foliate band, with some foliate scroll work remaining to the right of the right-hand inscription panel. The ends of the tomb are eroded and lyre-shaped.
The second chest tomb, located about 4 metres south-east of the first, is made of limestone and sandstone and dates from the 18th century. It has a moulded sandstone plinth and features a cartouche-like inscription panel on the south side. The north side has an oval inscription panel surrounded by palm fronds. At the west end, there is a crowned sunburst flanked by cherub's heads, while the east end displays an open bible and twin palm fronds. The tomb is adorned with egg and tongue moulding above and gadrooning below, with similar mouldings at the opposite end. The tomb is capped with sandstone that has a moulded margin.
