Description
The Old Vicarage is a former vicarage, now a house, built around 1830 and extended later in the 19th century. It features painted brick construction with a red tile roof and limestone stacks. The main body of the building is basically rectangular, with a later 19th-century cottage added to the left gable end.
The structure is two stories high and has a facade with three windows across, arranged in a 1:1:1 pattern. The gabled central bay projects slightly from the facade. The windows are one, two, and three-light casements with glazing bars, set within flat-chamfered surrounds that have stopped hoods. The central entrance consists of 20th-century flush panel double doors with decorative strap hinges, framed by a moulded Tudor-arched stone surround with carved spandrels, and flanked by clamp buttresses. There is a plank door with cover strips located within the porch.
To the left, a two-storey wing is lit by windows similar to those on the main facade. The rear facade of the later 19th-century cottage features a lean-to at the left gable end, which likely housed a bread oven and possibly a washing copper. The building also has decorative bargeboards, some with pierced decoration and others with blind trefoiled decoration, along with octagonal stacks topped with octagonal chimney pots.
