Description
The Arkell Monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St Bartholomew, approximately 11 meters south of the south-west corner of the south aisle. It commemorates Jonathan Arkell, who died in 1807. The monument is made of stone and features a flat lid with a smaller coped center and a moulded edge with indented corners. The sides have fielded panels with scalloped corners, while the ends are adorned with wide pilasters and a ribbed pulvinated frieze, which has a fluted base made from a different stone than the rest of the monument. There is a sunk oval panel on the stem, all resting on a moulded base set on wide stone paving with a step. The monument also includes other inscriptions.
