Description
The Wadley monument is a chest tomb located about 2 meters south-west of the porch of the Church of St. Giles. It commemorates M. Wadley, who died in 1826, and J. Wadley, who died in 1824. The tomb is made of stone and features a weathered top with a step and a moulded edge on the lid. The structure tapers downwards, with raised oval designs on the sides that display drapery caught up in the center and at the ends. The ends of the tomb have wide pilasters, with the east side being plain and the west side featuring a draped urn set in a sunk panel. The monument has a moulded top above a high plinth, and there is stone paving at ground level that originally supported iron railings. Later inscriptions on the tomb are noted for their good lettering.
