Description

Beach Hall, also known as The Summer House, is a summer house located approximately 5 meters south of Witcombe Park. It is believed to have been built around 1697, although this date is no longer visible. The structure features a limestone plinth and coarse render over lathing, with exposed timber uprights adorned with Ionic capitals at each corner. It has a stone slate roof with a red brick stack and a square plan.

On the west front, there is a central 19th-century door with six flush panels and a moulded architrave, accessed by five segmental limestone steps. To the right, there is a twelve-pane sash window with a moulded architrave. At the rear, a part-glazed 19th-century door with glazing bars leads into the walled garden. The roof is ogee-curved, resting on a twelve-sided base and supported by large wooden brackets featuring simple foliate decoration above the eaves. A cube sundial with a metal gnomon is present on all four sides, topped with a ball finial and weather vane.

Inside, there is a simple 19th-century fireplace, and the ceiling has collapsed, exposing the early roof structure, which consists of a single vertical upright with raking struts extending to the common rafters. The floor is in a state of decay, with holes beginning to appear as of the last survey in February 1987. The building was originally situated at the corner of a walled garden, part of which still remains.
