Description
The John Broome monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary, approximately 2 meters west of the tower. It commemorates Reverend John Broome, who died in 1819, and his wife Penelope Isabella, who died in 1862. The tomb is constructed from limestone and sandstone and is designed in the form of a sarcophagus resting on four square sandstone feet. It features sunken inscription panels on either side and is topped with a stepped pyramidal capping made of sandstone and limestone. An urn is depicted in relief at the west end of the tomb. Surrounding the monument is a cast iron railing adorned with spear-head and urn finials.
