Description
Avenis Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dated 1699. It is constructed from coursed rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and includes a former cowshed at the northeast end. The front features two full gables, with the left gable displaying two fire insurance plates and a datestone, each gable has a 2-light chamfered mullioned casement window with a hoodmould. The fenestration consists of six 2-light windows, four of which are grouped under a combined hoodmould on the left side. There is a central doorway with a chamfered opening and a plank door. The former cowshed has 20th-century windows. The southwest end includes a former granary loft with stone steps that have a projecting nosing at the top landing, and a projecting anti-rat course runs around this gable end. The rear has two gabled wings, each with a gable-mounted chimney featuring a moulded cap, one of which has a restored shaft. There is a 20th-century entrance hall addition below the right gable, and scattered 20th-century casement windows. The interior has been extensively altered during restoration from a ruinous state, with half of the main range having the upper floor removed to create a double-height space.
