Description

Packthorne Farmhouse is likely a farmhouse with a possible late 16th-century core, but primarily dating to the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It is constructed of brick on a chamfered brick plinth, with a slate roof featuring coped verges, a hipped southeast corner, and substantial brick ridge and gable end stacks incorporating four and three grouped flues, plus a smaller brick flue on the corner hip. The building has an L-shape, comprising a two-storey and attic main range with a small two-storey lean-to section with blue lias walls in the angle, and a single-storey wing to the northwest. The east side, originally with a lobby entry now blocked and containing a small single light above a former doorway, has four windows. Most windows are replacements of a similar design to those on the east and south sides, with some blocked openings. The south side has a six-panel door, with the top two panels glazed and the remainder fielded, set beneath a timber lintel supporting a 19th-century trelliswork porch. The interior has not been inspected.
