Description
The crane at Dudbridge Wharf is a Grade II listed structure made of wrought and cast iron, featuring a wooden jib. This rotating, hand-operated crane has a central pillar resting on a concealed base-plate. The wooden jib measures 7.3 meters in length and rises at a 47-degree angle, designed to lift loads of up to five tons. It includes a geared winding mechanism attached to the cast-iron frame, with a chain leading to the top pulley. The jib is reinforced by a pair of wrought iron rods connecting the winch to the pulley. The main castings on the sides of the frame display the inscription in raised capital letters: 'JOHN STEVENSON CANAL FOUNDRY PRESTON'.
