Description

Nos 23 and 25 on Westward Road are a former toll-house built in 1824, reflecting the era of the turnpike. This two-storey building features a hipped slate roof and is constructed of ashlar stone. The façade is divided into three bays, with the central bay showcasing a blind four-centred arch on the first floor and a canted bay shop window topped with a moulded cornice and an ornamental slate roof. The flanking bays each have bipartite four-centred arched casement windows with hoodmoulds on the first floor, as well as similar six-panel doors. There is a blocking course above the central bay.
