Description

Robinson, Ashmead and one unidentified memorial are located approximately 10 to 13 metres south of the porch door at the Church of St Giles.

The first memorial is a chest tomb from the early 19th century, made of sandstone. It features a square edged slab on a cyma, with plain panels that carry later inscription plates, including lines of a music score. This tomb commemorates Thomas Ashmead, who died in 1811, and is situated immediately adjacent to the path leading to the south porch.

The next two memorials are located about 2 to 3 metres southwest of the first tomb. The second memorial is a chest tomb from the early 18th century, constructed of limestone. It has a cyma top and lyre ends adorned with cartouches, featuring a tripartite inscription panel on the south side, which is not legible. The base was partly sunk and not visible at the time of the survey, and the east end is broken.

The third memorial is a chest tomb from the late 18th century, made of sandstone. At the time of the survey, the top was worn and displaced. It has friezed ends with shields and plain inscription panels that feature very fine incised lettering. This tomb commemorates Thomas Robinson, who died in 1760, and lies immediately south of the previous unidentified memorial.
