Description
The stables to Eastington House, likely built between 1791 and 1806, are a Grade II listed structure that also incorporates a coach house. These stables were constructed during significant alterations to Eastington House for Henry Hicks and were partly rebuilt after a fire in the 1970s. The building is made of brick and features a slate roof, with some asbestos tiles in the inner angle and two small brick stacks.
The stables form an L-shaped range that is single storey with a loft, and includes a brick lean-to in the inner angle to the north, which was originally in bays but is now filled in and has a corrugated roof. The south side, facing the house, has a series of round-headed doors and windows, most of which are original. After the fire, two gabled dormers were added, along with a small eaves dormer over a lean-to chicken house on the southwest face. The southeast face of the stables retains original stalls, and both sections likely have original brick paviors. At the far end of the southeast face, there are one double and one single pair of wooden doors that lead to the former coach house, which is now used as a garage.
