Description

Brookhill House and Meadow Cottage are a former mill owner’s house, probably dating from the early 18th century, located in Eastington Millend. The building has a gable end facing the street and is now divided into two dwellings, with a 20th-century extension to Meadow Cottage that is not of special interest. The construction is brick with a tile roof, featuring brick end stacks. The right end stack has been rebuilt with a square flue set diagonally.

The main part of the building is a single range of two storeys with an attic in the gable. A small, single-storey wing with an attic is set back on the right-hand side of Brookhill House, with a 19th-century rear lean-to extending across to a projecting, three-storey gabled wing over the original entrance. Meadow Cottage has a 20th-century extension to the rear and front. The south side has three windows, with varying 2-light casements featuring splayed brick flat arches. The window to the far right has arched lights and Gothic leading. A brick string course runs along the south side, with a large paired casement to the right on the ground floor. The right-hand gable end has a bricked-up oval light and an unused plank door. The current entrance is through the rear lean-to.

Inside Brookhill House, a wooden newel stair is located on the south side, behind the rear projecting section. Both floors feature chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
