Description

Watsome Farmhouse is a farmhouse with an Early to Mid 17th-century core, extended in the late 17th or early 18th century. The farmhouse is built of rubblestone, with the pointing mostly strap-style, and has a roof partly tiled with tile and double Roman and concrete tiles. There are two rendered stacks. The original core and the first extension form an L-shaped plan, with a later rear extension. The core section has a single storey and attic, while the front wing has two storeys and an attic, and the rear section has two storeys. The front of the main part of the house has two small gables, each with a two-light wooden casement window under a timber lintel. There are two similar windows on the ground floor, and a doorway to the left with a moulded wooden frame in a recess, also under a timber lintel, with six vertical glazed panels. A projecting wing to the left has two-light, three-light, or four-light mullion windows, with some having ovolo moulded interiors on the ground floor, under timber lintels, and with flush splayed stone sills. There is a blocked doorway in the angle between the wings. A room on the ground floor of the projecting wing has a chamfered beam with run-out stops. Some beams also remain in the original core of the house.
