Description
Welches Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, which was enlarged to the west in the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed and dressed stone, featuring large flush quoins and a stone slate roof. The building has a large external stack on the right-hand return of the cross-gabled wing, which has a moulded cornice, as well as small ashlar end and ridge stacks on the long range.
The farmhouse has an L-shaped layout with a cross-gabled wing that is two storeys tall with an attic, serving as the short arm. The long range includes two former 19th-century cottages, also two storeys high, which connect to what is likely a former outbuilding on the far left. The core wing displays a combination of 3/4/4-light ovolo-moulded stone mullions with square hoodmoulds on the south gable end, where the first floor has a 4-light window with a king mullion, and the ground floor features a renewed 4-light window. The remaining windows have chamfered 2 and 3-light stone mullions.
On the west side, there is a large former entrance that has been blocked by a 20th-century window, featuring a keystone and voussoirs. The 19th-century range of the two former cottages has a 3-light wood casement above a 3-light stone mullion, with a 6-panel door to the right that has flush panels, the top two of which are glazed, all under cambered heads. At the rear, there is a large lean-to roofed with slate, constructed from part stone and part brick, mainly dating from the 19th century.
