Description

Horsemarling Farmhouse is a mid-to-late 17th-century farmhouse that was enlarged in the early 20th century. It is situated in Standish. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed and dressed stone, with a stone slate roof featuring coped verges. A large stone ridge stack with twin diagonally set flues and a moulded cornice is located to the right of the centre, with a similar stack at the left end of the rear range. A smaller gable end stack is at the right-hand end of the 20th-century addition. The farmhouse has an L-shape with a cross-gabled rear wing to the left. It is two storeys and has an attic. The building was extended by one window bay on the right after the Great War. Originally, the front had a central gable with a continuous dripmould over what were initially four windows, with three 2-light chamfered stone mullions and a single light likely for a newel stair below the stack. This now has a fifth 2-light window to the far right. The gable also has a 2-light window with a square hoodmould. The ground floor features two 3-light windows in the centre, flanking a pair of 6-panel flush doors. The doors have the two top panels glazed, and are accessed via 19th-century wrought iron porches with hipped stone slate roofs. A 3-light wooden casement window is located at the right-hand end. The interior has not been inspected.
