Description
This is a group of four ledger slabs located in the churchyard, approximately 3 metres south of the chancel of the Church of All Saints in Bisley Village. The monuments date from the early to mid-18th century and are made of limestone with brass plates. Each slab features a single plate, with one slab having later additional plates. The larger slabs commemorate members of the Damsell family, listed from north to south as follows: Anne, the wife of Samuel Damsell, who died in 1754; Samuel Damsell, who died in 1722; and Elizabeth Damsell, who also died in 1722. The smaller slab is inscribed to Sarah, the daughter of William Garder, who died in 1715. This group represents several early examples of the local tradition of memorialization.
