Description

The Newarke monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 6 metres south of the south aisle of the Church of St James. It dates from 1641 and is made of limestone. The tomb is rectangular in shape and features a heavy continuous moulding below a band decorated with lozenge patterns. There is a lozenge panel on the east end, along with inscription panels on the sides. The top of the tomb is ovolo moulded. The south side is inscribed in memory of William Newarke, who died in 1641.
