Description
The gate piers, gates, and garden walls at Tocknell's Court are likely from the 18th century. They consist of two pairs of gate piers made from large dressed square limestone blocks set on rubble base courses, with wrought iron gates. The walls form a quadrangle with saddle-back copings along the river front of the house, retaining a terrace. The river gate is reached by a straight flight of 10 stone steps leading to two square gate piers adorned with richly moulded chippings, each topped with a splendid stone heraldic lion. The wrought iron gate features an arched head in the side panels and an overthrow. On the north side, there is a similar pair of piers with ball finials and another wrought iron gate. A small gate on the west side provides access to the entrance front of the house.
