Description

The railway bridge, built around 1844, carries a road over the railway and is likely designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the Bristol and Gloucester Railway. It is constructed from ashlar limestone with a punched face. The bridge features a round archway, flanked by curved retaining walls that are battered up to a boldly projecting string course level. The central part of the bridge parapet is recessed with a slight arch, which contrasts with the outer splayed parapets, creating an elegant overall appearance. The structure appears to be very complete.
