Description

Brooke House is a detached house dating from the mid-18th century, with a large addition from the early 19th century. It features a combination of stucco and random rubble limestone, along with ashlar, brick, and rendered chimneys. The roofs are covered with Welsh slate and concrete tiles. The building has a double-pile plan, consisting of a two-storey range facing east and a three-storey range with an attic to the west. There is a single-storey section at the south end, which includes an east-facing garden room at the rear.

The east front has a symmetrical arrangement of windows with a pattern of 2:1:2, featuring 12-pane sash windows in plain openings. A central round-arched doorway with a six-panel door and decorative fanlight is framed by a Doric porch with an open pediment. The upper floor has a plain band and cornice, topped with a blocking course. Gable end chimneys are present, and to the left, there is a small timber garden room with a corrugated iron roof. The central part of the façade has a projecting octagonal bay with a hipped roof, which includes a doorway flanked by 4-pane sashes, with two Gothick 12-pane sashes on either side.

On the west side, the house features a two-window arrangement of 16-pane sash windows with timber lintels, possibly in earlier openings. There is a small central ground floor casement window with a timber lintel and a central raking roof dormer. Gable end chimneys are also present on this side. The lower range to the right has segmental arched openings and a pentice roof supported by brick piers. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
