Description
Bridge Cottages is a pair of houses built in the late 15th century or early 16th century. They feature timber framing set on a rubble limestone plinth, with a brick chimney and a clay plain tile roof. The cottages are single-storey with an attic and have a rear wing.
The northeast front displays square framing with a middle rail and has scattered timber casements. No 6, on the right, has a doorway with a four-centred head and a wide plank door, along with a small high-level casement that likely serves as a stair-light. It appears that the building has been shortened, as remnants of timber framing are incorporated into an outhouse attached to No 7 on the left.
The northwest end features curved bracing above and below the tie beam, with the principal rafter having curved feet. There is an off-centre ground floor casement and a central attic casement, which may have been positioned where a former loft doorway was located. The rear wing to the right has smaller square framing, and there has been some rebuilding at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
