Description
This listing describes a group of two chest tombs located in the churchyard approximately 11 meters southwest of the south transept of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Minchinhampton. The tombs date from the early 18th century and are made of limestone.
One of the tombs is a finely carved lyre-ended chest tomb, featuring a figure head over an open book at the east end. It has two oval wreathed panels on the north side and a swag panel with putti on the south side. The top and base of this tomb are thick and cyma moulded. Attached to the top are two brass plates: one commemorates Thomas Mayo, who died in 1761, and the other honors Henry Mayer, who died in 1821, both signed by C. ILES of Hampton.
The second tomb is a plain rectangular chest tomb with fluted pilasters and has illegible inscriptions.
