Description
The crossing gates at Brimscombe St Mary's crossing are located on the south side of London Road, beside a two-track railway. Likely built around 1875, these gates are made of painted timber and wire mesh. Each gate consists of two cross-braced panels mounted on heavy metal-capped piers, with a smaller pedestrian gate attached to a lesser capped post. The main gates are hung on heavy strap hinges. On the London Road side of the tracks, the gate is adjacent to a tall stone abutment wall, which is not included in this listing. On the opposite side, the gates are positioned close to a signal box. Together, the gates and signal box form a well-preserved group from the same period.
