Description

St Mary's Mill is a mill building, now used for mixed purposes, built around 1820 for Samuel Clutterbuck. It features coursed and squared limestone, an ashlar chimney, and a roof made of Welsh and asbestos slate. The structure is four storeys tall with an attic, and there is a three-storey range to the south that is connected by an upper floor section over a throughway, along with a single-storey part at the southern end.

On the east side, there are eight windows, all featuring two-light flat-mullioned casements with three-centred headed lights. There are two keyed segmental arches over the mill stream. The roof has a long raking dormer with some leaded casements and a gable end chimney with a chamfered cap at the southern end, while the roof is hipped to the north. A relieving arch is located above the timber lintel of the throughway to the left, and the three-storey range has mixed casement fenestration.

The west side has fenestration that is generally similar to the east side. At the north end, there are two windows with two-light casements like those on the main elevations, although some lights are blocked.

Inside, the cross-beams have iron tie-rod tension bracing, and the mill retains an iron water wheel and a working steam engine. St Mary's Mill forms part of a group with St Mary's House and another mill building to the northeast.
