Description
Mansfield House is an early 19th-century house built of Flemish bond brick, featuring brick end stacks and a gabled roof originally covered with slate, now with concrete tiles. The house has a central stairhall plan with a rear service outshot and stands two storeys high. The front is symmetrical with three windows, each with flat stone arches and voussoirs above 6/6-pane sash windows. The entrance includes a six-panel door with a lozenge-pattern overlight, set within a classical doorcase. There have been some alterations to the rear of the house. The interior is remarkably well-preserved, showcasing original joinery such as panelled shutters and doors with moulded architraves, some fluted and adorned with corner rosettes. It also features an open-well stair with stick balusters and original chimneypieces that include original cast-iron grates.
