Description
Quintons is a detached house that was previously used as a pair of cottages. The left side of the building likely dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century and was refronted around 1698 when the right side was constructed, possibly by or for William and Hannah Lediard, whose initials and date are found around an oval window on the right gable. The original structure was timber-framed, featuring a pair of crucks on the left gable end, which may be true crucks with their bases obscured by half-height brick facing. The rear is rendered and likely timber-framed, while the front has been refaced in coursed and dressed stone to match the right side. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, half-hipped to the left, and features a large ashlar ridge stack on the later half, which has three diagonally set square flues with brick caps.
The building consists of a single range with a single storey and attic, presenting two large coped gables at the front, with a cross gable to the right. The right side has a rear lobby entry plan. Both gables are adorned with 2-light stone mullions and square hoodmoulds, with a 3-light similar window featuring an oval light in the apex on the right. The left gable has a 3-light window that is offset from the centre, with a former chamfered stone doorway to the right that has been blocked with recessed stonework. There is a central small single light, likely for a newel stair, aligned with the rear entrance and stack. The rear gable is brick above the ground floor and has a 2-light window on the ground floor. Additionally, there are small 20th-century lean-tos at each end.
