Description
The Four Fielder Monuments are located in a line about 15 meters north of the west buttress of the porch in the churchyard of the Church of St. Nicholas in Standish, dating from the 18th century. There are four chest tombs belonging to the Fielder family.
From south to north, the first monument is for George Fielder, who died in 1800. It is made of sandstone and features a flat top with a moulded plinth and capping on a base. The ends are slightly indented, showcasing a fluted frieze, with slightly recessed reliefs that include a pyramid on the west side and an urn on the east. The sides have raised plain ovals adorned with draped leaf reliefs.
The second monument is for Samuel Fielder, who died in 1763. Constructed from limestone, it has a flat top with a moulded plinth and capping, slightly convex ends, and straight quarter baluster corners. The south side has a recessed moulded oval, while the north side features a double tombstone shape panel, with high reliefs on the ends.
The third monument is for George Fielder, who died in 1744, and the fourth is for an unnamed Fielder from the mid-18th century. Both are made of limestone and have flat tops with cyma moulded plinths and cappings. They feature lyre ends with oval end panels and shallow relief returns. The side panels are projecting and moulded, with flanking relief strips of drapery on the north side and foliage on the south.
