Description
The Red Lion and Red Lion Cottages is a former inn with an attached row of cottages at the rear, dating from the early to mid-18th century, with the inn itself dated 1870. The building features coursed and dressed limestone for the inn and coursed rubble for the row, with ashlar chimneys. The inn has an artificial stone slate roof, while the row is covered with concrete tiles.
The two-storey inn is located at the southeast end of the two-storey row. The southeast front of The Red Lion has a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with three sashes on each floor, all featuring marginal glazing bars, shaped stone lintels, and linking hood moulds. The central section of the front projects slightly and includes a moulded doorway with a four-panel door and a rectangular light above. At the top of the central parapet, there is a recumbent red-painted iron lion. The gable ends of the parapet have chimneys with simple moulded caps.
On the southwest front of the row, there are four upper-floor casements with two lights and chamfered mullions. The ground floor has one, two, and three-light casements, along with two 20th-century porch lobby additions. The interiors have not been inspected.
