Description
Eastcombe Baptist Church and The Manse is a Baptist church and manse located in Eastcombe, with the manse dating from the early 19th century and the church built in 1860. The buildings are constructed from coursed rubble limestone with ashlar dressings, featuring ashlar chimneys on the manse and a Welsh slate roof. The church is a rectangular structure with two heights, including an under-storey at the north-west end, while the manse is two-storey and situated on the south-west side.
The south-east front of the church has a moulded parapet gable topped with a small bellcote and spirelet. It features a central round-arched doorway with glazing bars in the fanlight and double six-panel doors, with an inscription around the arch that reads: 'ENTER INTO HIS-GATES WITH THANKSGIVING, AND INTO HIS COURTS WITH PRAISE'. Above the doorway is a two-light window in the Romanesque style, flanked by two round-arched windows on each level. Below the bellcote is a clock face with a hoodmould.
To the left, the manse has a three-window arrangement, all 16-pane sashes with stone lintels, and a central doorway with a six-panel door and a rectangular light above it. The north-east side of the church features two round-arched windows on each level, while the rear has a plain parapet gable end with two round-arched windows and a small circular stained glass window centrally above. There is a central doorway to the under-storey with a rectangular light over a plain door, and four 16-pane sashes. The fenestration on the rear of the manse has been altered.
Inside the chapel, there is a plain tunnel vault supported by four round-arched arcades with cast iron columns. The gallery has a panelled front, and an organ above the entrance features a projecting segmental fronted balustrade. Various 19th-century memorials are present, some transferred from an earlier church building that was contemporary with the manse.
