Description
This retaining wall, built around 1805, is approximately 70 meters long and is located about 40 meters west of Skaiteshill House. Constructed from coursed rubble limestone, the wall runs east to west and features a central opening and a sundial. At the center, there are steps leading down from a higher level, with the sundial positioned on a small paved area. The stone steps pass through a narrow opening that is flanked by re-used stone columns topped with ball finials. The lower steps are round-fronted and spread out into a stone-paved area, with the baluster-shaped sundial as the centerpiece, which has an octagonal top. At the west end, the return wall includes a Gothick doorway with a heavy studded plank door, which serves as the termination of the main garden vista.
