Description
The barn at Slowwepool Farm is a large structure dated 1780, as indicated by the keystone on the south side. It is built of brick with quoins and a plinth made of slag blocks, topped with a blue double Roman tile roof and a brick dentil cornice. The barn features tall, opposing gabled porches that reach up to the ridge height on the north and south sides. The south porch has a timber lintel and double timber doors beneath a depressed relieving arch, while the north porch has a depressed brick arch.
Each side of the porches and the gable ends has three slit vents arranged in two tiers, along with owl holes in the apex. Notably, there is a letter "H" made of red brick set into the paler brick on the east gable end, which may refer to the Holford family, who once owned several farms in the area. The barn consists of seven bays, with the central bay being wider, and features a king post roof.
