Description

St Michael's Garth is a detached house with a gateway, built around 1850 and likely designed by Henry Hook, the builder of Eastcombe. The house is constructed from ashlar limestone, with rebuilt chimneys and a stone slate roof. It is two storeys with an attic, and designed in a Gothic Revival style, forming an L-shaped plan. The main range runs east to west, featuring three two-light pointed arched windows facing west. A two-light window with a triangular bay window to the right, featuring pointed arched lights and a coped top with a string course, is located on the ground floor; this section was later altered in the late 19th century with a square bay window. There are two-light windows in each gable end, topped with carved ridge finials. A chimney is centrally positioned on the ridge. An east-facing wing features a pointed arched doorway with a timber porch, a gothic 'Venetian' window with a two-light casement above, and a single pointed light above the doorway. A plain two-light window is located in an extension to the right. The interior remains uninspected. The Gothic gatepiers have pointed recessed and cross-roll tops with ball finials. Contemporary decorative wrought iron gates complete the property.
