Description

The Old House is a detached house, dated 1704 and extended in the mid to late 18th century. It is located in Chalford Bussage village. The house is constructed of random rubble limestone, with rendered brick and ashlar chimneys, and a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with an attic, and a rear wing creates an L-shaped plan. The south front has a two-window arrangement on the ground floor, with two-light chamfered mullioned casement windows with hood moulds. The hood mould to the right window extends over the dated stone door lintel, which incorporates the inscription "HEC 1704". A 20th-century glazed door is centrally positioned. The upper floor has a two-light window on the right. A central gabled dormer with a 20th-century casement window projects from the roof. On the east side, the gable end of the original house is visible on the left, featuring an off-centre two-light ground floor casement window. The rear wing features a three-light casement window with a hood mould. The interior has not been inspected. The house is possibly the oldest building in this village, which is largely an 18th century settlement.
