Description
Brownshill House is a detached house dating from the early to mid-17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century and an addition around 1830. The building is constructed from random rubble and coursed limestone, featuring ashlar chimneys and a concrete tile roof. It is two stories high with an attic and has a U-shaped plan with later infill.
The front of the house has the earliest part on the right, which has been partly refronted in the early 19th century and includes two 12-pane sash windows. To the left is a doorway with Regency architraves and a cobweb fanlight, although this is obscured by a two-story glazed porch. The right section retains mullioned windows, with a three-light window on the ground floor and a two-light window above, along with a small dormer in the eaves.
To the left, the range was extended around 1830, featuring three 12-pane sash windows. There are four chimneys mounted on the ridges, some with moulded caps. At the rear, there are two gabled 17th-century wings with single-window mullioned fenestration. A low-pitched infill from the late 19th century connects the wings and includes four-pane sash windows. The rear of the 1830 addition has some blocked windows. The interior has not been inspected.
